The Nevin Kelly Gallery seeks to bring a
fresh perspective to offerings of contemporary art in the Washington,
DC area (and elsewhere, by internet). We are committed to establishing
ourselves as a reliable and consistent resource for purchasers seeking
intelligent works of high artistic merit by quality artists--both
established artists and new talent. The gallery opened in May 2003.
The grand opening exhibition featured works by six established Polish
artists who rank among the very best in Poland's first-rate art
community. Works by those artists--Stasys Eidrigevicius (a Lithuanian
artist who moved to Warsaw in 1980 and whose works hang in numerous
museums around the world), Lukasz Huculak, Tomasz Karabowicz, Mikolaj
Kasprzyk, Krzysztof Kokoryn and Darek Pala--can be seen on the
Artist's page for each of them. Some of the works shown are from the
grand opening exhibition. Others are new works that replace works that
have been sold.
A history of the exhibitions that
followed the grand-opening exhibition can be found in the "News &
Events" section of this website.
The gallery's exhibition philosophy is to devote about half of each
year to exhibiting works by all of its represented artists, in a group
exhibition format that changes as works are sold or new works are
introduced, and to host several solo or small group exhibitions during
the rest of the year, typically in the Spring and Autumn. This allows
the gallery to give ample "wall time" to its group of 20-or-so
represented artists and also to introduce new artists or new concepts
to the community. The gallery is committed to dedicating a large
portion of its special exhibition schedule to the display of works by
local artists - particularly emerging artists - and also to introducing
international artists or American artists from outside the region to
the Washington area.
We believe a retail art gallery should not be a museum. It should not
be intimidating. It should not be static. We have included a
comfortable sitting area in our gallery for visitors to linger and
enjoy the experience of admiring and learning about new works. We
change our exhibition format periodically between formal hangings of
work in "gallery style" that allows us to showcase a select sampling
of our inventory and a less formal "salon style" approach that shows a
broader selection or works by each of our artists. We think this keeps
things interesting. Please visit us and let us know how we have done.
